The laminar two-dimensional jet amplifies small disturbances at the orifice to generate a " vortex street ". 4. However as the Reynolds number is increased the flow becomes asymmetric and the so-called K�rm�n vortex street occurs. 5. In 1907, he published a paper on what would later be known as the von Karman vortex street . 6. Although named after Theodore von K�rm�n, he acknowledged that the vortex street had been studied earlier by B�nard. 7. Other researchers claim that lab studies exhibit vortex streets , a series of spiraling vortices not observed in Saturn's hexagon. 8. Vortex streets are zigzagging patterns of whirling separation of flow of a fluid, most often air or water, over obstructing objects.10. These wakes are accompanied by alternating low-pressure vortices on the downwind side of the body ( the so-called Von K�rm�n vortex street ).
